My partner insults me

Lately, my partner has been constantly insulting me with words. He claims I’m not working (even though we agreed to pause my job), and he’s never satisfied. He criticizes my actions, words, and behavior. He says I’m just going with the flow while I should always be doing something for the family. He never apologizes—just acts like nothing happened.

He yells every day, even in front of our child. He doesn’t respond to my remarks. Right away, he turns everything around and makes me the problem.

Psychologists’ answers

Good afternoon,
This must be very difficult for you. Perhaps you could formulate what your question is for the psychologists?

It’s important not to put yourself in the position of a victim. This is harder if you depend on your partner, but it’s even more crucial to set boundaries for yourself. Have you tried telling him that this behavior is unacceptable and suggesting a constructive conversation? Even if you’re not entirely right from his perspective, screaming and belittling him doesn’t give him the right to do the same.

You can protect yourself and control the environment in which your child is growing up. It’s better not to resolve conflicts in front of them.

If you can’t reach out to a specialist, try calling a women’s hotline for advice. You can call 1547 at any time, day or night, to get support.

I’m sorry you’re going through this—listening to and enduring relentless pressure in the form of complaints and accusations must be incredibly difficult, sometimes unbearable.

In light of this, I’d like to invite you to look inward and ask yourself: What do you want most right now? From your husband?

From psychologists, since you’ve brought your pain here to a psychology forum? There must have been a PURPOSE and certain EXPECTATIONS behind your decision to communicate here.

So please, share them with me.
